ICYMI: Local Policy Resolution Safeguarding and Enhancing Democracy Reaches the National Stage

It is inspiring to see how a local initiative from the Niagara Falls & Niagara-on-the-Lake (NFNOTL) riding association successfully navigated the multi-tiered grassroots process to become official national policy!

Moving from local conception to a provincial endorsement, surviving the national digital shortlist, and ultimately being ratified as Resolution 35158 ("Safeguarding and Enhancing Canadian Democracy") at the 2026 Liberal National Convention in Montréal is a major milestone for our riding association.

The three pillars established in the policy address critical modern challenges:

·       Combating Misinformation: Actively countering foreign and domestic disinformation.

·       Civic Engagement: Encouraging grassroots participation across diverse communities.

·       Improving Democratic Participation: Enhancing transparency and public trust in institutions.

The fact that it was formally integrated into the party's platform document within 14 days of the convention shows a strong organizational commitment to these priorities.

Many thanks go to the local members who drafted the policy and the riding association’s Policy Chair, Carol Stewart-Kirkby.
